Cover versions of songs can be very hit or miss. Often the original version of the track is great and the cover can seem like an insult to it. Stand out bad covers for me, all which made No.1 in the UK, include Phil Collins’ ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’, Geri Halliwell’s ‘It’s Raining Men’, Atomic Kitten’s ‘Eternal Flame’ and ‘The Tide is High’, and all seven No.1s by Robson and Jerome. However, when a cover works, it can really work. After looking at the tracks I’m currently featuring on my site, I realized that I’m a bigger fan of cover versions than I thought I was! Elsewhere on my site, you’ll find cover versions of ‘Hurt’, ‘The Day Before You Came’, ‘I Scare Myself’ along with the original version, ‘I Know Him So Well’, ‘My Death’, ‘Personal Jesus’, and ‘Don’t Forget Me’. I’ve created pages for a few covers, along with the original, so that you can listen and judge for yourself.
